Why does this thread have eight pages?

Maybe that's why I like fast food. It's pretty much always the same since it's nearly assembly line fare. I've been to a few local places here that have been "WOW", then the next time it was "bleck" so I can see the variance.

If you crave consistency in food, then make it yourself! It's usually cheaper and you know exactly what goes into it.

They got one in Fort Worth, Texas now so I guess that's something! I think they had like 2 hour long lines when it opened there.

That's because they don't use freezers; everything is made fresh. So there's a limit to where they can add locations based on their supply chain. They have In-N-Out in Texas now, but they're all in the Dallas metro area, so I'm guessing they lined up suppliers in that area but the supply chain there is not developed enough to expand into San Antonio, for example.

They are also in Utah and it's the same thing there; all in the Salt Lake metro area, except for one odd In-N-Out in the southern part of Utah (I guess for people going to Zion and Bryce Canyon?), which was actually their first location in Utah and is probably grouped with their Nevada locations in the corporate structure.

When a new In-N-Out opens somewhere, it's a big deal.
The only other time I've seen a line that long for food was on Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day.

We had In-N-Out tonight but I didn't get a milkshake because then everybody would have wanted one. Now I'm craving one.

The best part of In-N-Out is if you're a destitute college student you can head over right before closing and ask if they can dump their shakestuff into a cup for you instead of a sink so you can get a free shake.

I have done this several times and they have never refused.

I'm not a huge fan of the really compact, tall, thick burger style that Five Guys uses. I can go for one sometimes, but after college, lead brick burgers lost their appeal. Also, the toppings, while generous, focus on variety, while I prefer some good, fresh lettuce and tomatoes. So that's basically the Five Guys/In-n-Out divide in a nutshell.

Also, while I'm not a huge fan of plain In-n-Out fries, the quality of Five Guys fries seems to vary significantly, and I've gotten overcooked, nearly-burnt fries once or twice. "You get a ton of them!" is nice, but only when they're done right.

In-N-Out once came and catered my college.

It was like that line of cars, only it was a line of nerds leading up to a guy in a truck.

Best evening surprise of my college career.

In-N-Out is the superior Burger Eatery.

I used to be like you, for 5 glorious years.

Five Guys isn't terrible. I like some of the options they give you that In-N-Out does not, like adding green peppers, jalapenos or barbecue sauce. Also, free peanuts!

In-N-Out is still the king, though. They have the best fries (even better when animal style) and milkshakes.

I refuse to eat at Carl's Jr/Hardee's because I still haven't gotten over how disgusting their commercials were 5 years ago. They were extreme close-ups of people jamming giant burgers into their mouths and the sound, OH GOD THE SOUND

It sounded like the noise someone would make when biting into a sock full of Jell-O, amplified 20 times.

Or the sound of stuffing your fist into a jar of mayo.

That's a shame you won't give it a try. I'm worried our local Hardee's is going to close. It's not very popular, but the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is good. As in, it's clean actually. McDonald's you're sitting in crumbs and there are little bits of food everywhere because they don't wipe the tables. Hardee's was always spotless clean, and they even bring you the food! And you don't have to tip! It's pretty much the perfect restaurant (also, curly fries>all other fries).

Carl's Jr. (Hardees regional doppelganger) was the first chain to introduce self-service drink fountains in my hometown, back in the late 80s. It was the stuff of disbelieving pilgrimages when it first appeared. I remember my brother and me going there after soccer games and hikes and working up a huge thirst, which we then quenched with deep draughts from the machine—no shuffling up to the counter and begging a refill from the cashier necessary.

That plus their tendency toward BIG burgers with tons of well-thought-out toppings made them a favorite of mine for a long time.


And then there's Jack in the Box. Weird burgers, but the best ad campaign ever.

Everybody hates on McDonald's, but there's always a line when you go past it around lunch or dinnertime. I do love the McRib and its amazing blend of organ meat and yoga mat cleaner flavor.

I currently enjoy Carls Jr. because they have sweet potato fries. I've always had a soft spot for their Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich.

Self-serve drink fountains were groundbreaking when they first came out... now some places have those crazy touch-screen drink fountains where there's like 200 different drinks available.

I unironically like McDonald's breakfast burritos.

I was actually going to suggest the Vegas one myself. Lots of people find themselves there for vacations anyway, and the In-N-Out there gets into the spirit of the place by having a bigger-than-normal sign, Vegas-ified:



It's walking distance from the Strip, and thus fits perfectly into one's itinerary of debauchery. It's even open till like 1:30 AM.

^It's hard to describe really. They're such weird burgers, and they use this weird cheddar cheese instead of the usual american. Overall, I'm exaggerating a bit. It's not really awful, but I didn't enjoy the taste enough so I threw a chunk of the burger away. Though one comment I have is they are the weirdest looking patties ever. They look like chunks of dried leather rather than a juicy burger.

Don't look now, but I think "Don't bother me, I'm eating" was sometime in the mid-'90s.

Not using American cheese is 100% a good thing.
Also the one near me is great as well. Real nice burgers and fries.
