Went to a new burger place tonight. Well, I say new, but only because I've never been there before myself. It's a local place called Blimpy Burger, and it's about to be closed, as it's building got bought up by the U of M. Hopefully they'll be able to get a new place for a good price, because damn are they good greaseball burgers. And the restaurant experience is quite fun as well. There's a procedure to ordering, and I apparently did well, because I didn't get yelled at. You can check out their website here, and this site has some good pictures of their food. I had a quad with bacon, mayo, ketchup, onions, and lettuce. It was so very deliciously greasy, the bottom bun was practically transparent. :allears: If you're ever in the Ann Arbor area, I can definitely recommend it.

EDIT: Page-topper needs a pic.

So good. :awesomedash:

You know why pizza is superior? Pizza places don't yell at you if you don't know the secret code :rainbert:

Took Mom out to dinner for her birthday, and we went to a Chicago-style place in NorCal. It was pretty good, although very heavy on the tomato.

It's all part of the experience. Anyway, they have ordering instructions posted up in the restaurant, so if you get it wrong it's your own fault anyway. :-P

Well, after seeing that French chef's burger video upthread, I was inspired to give a pizza burger another go, except this time the way he said.

Patties:
1 lb. 85% fresh lean ground beef (I know he says to use higher-fat, but I'm a lean burger freak because of my George Foreman grill - keeps even 95% lean burgers juicy if you do it right)
Some marjoram
~1/4 cup of chopped fresh onion
Smidge of salt and pepper

Bun:
A ciabatta loaf that was literally hot out of the oven

Misc:
Shredded fresh mozzarella cheese
Some leftover Trader Joe's pizza sauce

--

Watch this video and cook burgers as directed:

Top the ciabatta with mozerella and place in oven on a baking sheet face-up at 400 degrees about halfway through the first side of the burger. Microwave the leftover pizza sauce until hot (doesn't take long). When the burgers are done cooking, let them sit and remove the ciabatta from the oven. Spoon pizza sauce over each half of the ciabatta. Place burgers. Close up bun.

Serves two people who wants a classy take on dumpy diner food from childhood. :memories:

So apparently, for people like me who can't read that the vote had closed about 3 weeks ago, Pizza has won the vote.

Another pretty good pro-pizza argument: You will never, ever accidentally get a pizza with mustard on it. :vomitpony:

Ideas for next poll:
Favorite pizza topping?
Fast food place that makes you least sick?
Best piece of fried chicken?

Polls are good for pre-selected options, not open questions like that. A better poll idea would be: HAMBURGER vs. HOT DOG. Or, PIZZA vs. HOT DOG. Maybe even HOT DOG vs. FISH AND CHIPS.

But mustard is great on burgers.

Definitely better than that vile grease known as mayonnaise. :drpony:

Popeye's is okay but seems a little overpriced.

For my money, the best fried chicken is one of the local chains, "Chicken Bonz".

Obviously we need a 'what two options do you want to vote on in the next vs thread' poll, with all the variations we can fit of different foods. That way we can absolutely know what the people want as far as their meaningless polls threads go.

I'm really craving a real burger right now, none of that fast-food junk. Sadly, that involves actually cooking one. :-/

I had a grilled burger today with a pretty high quality bun. It was okay. I mostly had it plain with a bit of cheese. I'm kind of tired of ketchup and mustard and it was different, but in a good way. I still prefer pizza by a mile though.

Favorite pizza topping?
Pepperoni, mushroom, pretty much anything I'm a fat bastard.
Fast food place that makes you least sick?
I guess Wendy's?
Best piece of fried chicken?
Sylvia's in Harlem. There was also this Korean chain that I went to in HS that was pretty nice. I think a giant bee was its mascot...

Also, if you guys are gonna talk about empanadas and things like that, you need to post some pics. :glare:

Pupusas are similar to the South American arepa. The main difference is the pupusa is made from nixtamal, whereas arepas are made from ordinary corn dough.
Ohhhhhhhh ok.

Chicago peeps, I can recommend an arepa sandwich place in the near west 'burbs.

How badly could society have boned itself that this thread made it to 10 pages? Insanity, purely chaotic, writhing out of a beef carcass and crawling over to a mess of dough and cheese. It's like the smooze but its soaked in grease and its victims are oblivious to it.

I don't quite know why I am horrified, but I am, quite deeply in the clogged valves of my heart.

I like to make a sort of dessert empanada using puff pastry, a hazelnut chocolate spread (Like Nutella), and a bunch of tiny marshmallows. Seal them up, brush the top with egg wash. Put in the oven at 205 C for 15 minutes until poofy golden brown.

Mmmmmm, so good.
