Las Pegasus Unicon - Hey Ocean!'s Eleven

Post by Big Boss (?) » Tue Feb 19, 2013 8:30 pm

This weekend is Las Pegasus Unicon, the first major convention of the year. It's been about four months since Equestria LA, the last pony con.

Schedule of Events

There'll be panels and other things, and they'll be livestreamed by Everfree Network. Guests include writers, VAs, and more. John de Lancie will be there, making this his first pony con since Bronycon. Meghan McCarthy, M.A. Larson, Daniel Ingram, Tabitha, Andrea, Tara, and more will be there.

Also, I'll be there to cover the show as well as have a vendor table. If, for some reason, you are going and don't have access to At the Gala, say so! That way you can hang out with us cool people. :excite:

Mod Edit: Events start to get interesting around page 5 - viewtopic.php?p=331170#p331170

Looking foward to the writers panels, considering this will be the first post season three con there will hopefully be some interesting answers. Larson is moderating one of the panels too. Should be interesting.

Have fun and hope you make lots of sales there kef.

Basically anyone who's anyone on the staff is going to be at this, right? With post-finale fever still going to be kinda up? Should be an interesting weekend.

Any excuse to get back to Vegas for a few days is fine with me. I lived there for 6 years while serving in the US Air Force. I wasn't looking forward to the con until Hasbro lifted the VA ban in mid January, then of course all the big name guests started pouring in. I even plunked down 200 for the cocktail party and dinner. The trip will be more than worth it if at the dinner it ends in a standing ovation for the staff and VAs, because quite frankly they deserve it after such a magnificent season.

If you plan on spending time away from the convention, I recommend the Tournament of Kings, and Penn and Teller. There's a seafood buffet, I think it's at the Rio if I remember correctly, and it's pretty damned good. I also highly suggest Wienerschnitzel, if you're in the mood for fast food that specializes in chili cheesedogs, chili double cheeseburgers, chili cheese fries, and chili cheesePepsi.

Oh and least I forget, there's an internet cafe on Maryland across from UNLV called Planet PC. I think it's 3 bucks an hour, but has the full compliment of MMOs, and is 24/7, AND it's right next to a Chipotle and 7/11.

OH, OH OH, and if you need a taxi, don't freaking call anyone but Desert Cab. They are by far the best. 702-386-9102.

Won't be able to make this one, but hoping to make the one in Anaheim next time it happens (and depending on the guest list).

The Riviera is about as far north on the Strip as you can get and I think with the Sahara closed, it's now the oldest continually operating hotel on the Strip. If you plan on hitting up any of the better parts of the Strip, don't plan on walking. The Riviera is way out there.

The seafood buffet at the Rio is good. I also recommend the buffet at the Mirage. If you're a cheapskate, go off-strip to the Gold Coast, which is a block away from Rio (bear in mind they close at 9 p.m.).

If you have a bowl full of change in your house, dig out all the quarters and check out the Pinball Hall of Fame on Tropicana Ave. They're open until midnight.

Really? Even in my town of like 2,500 people I've chanced upon two people who are fans of the show. Not "bronies", per se, but still.

Anyway: I made it to the Riviera in one piece. Anyone else here yet?

Las Vegas in the winter is an ... odd ... choice for a fan convention. Students aren't out of school and Las Vegas implies a hotel and flight.

I'm expecting the con to have a slightly older demographic than Bronycon.

Then you need to wear more pony shirts in public. :twiright:

The most comments I got in one day regarding ponies happened during my friend's bachelor party. We decided as a group to all wear jeans and black shirts as we went bar-hopping around Chicago. Most people wore Metallica shirts, but I wore a black shirt with Fluttershy on it. Like 5 random people not affiliated with the party came up to me throughout the evening and commented on the awesomeness of my shirt.

The panels will have been informationally successful if we find out something about EqG, S4, and the rationale behind the alicornification. I fully expect McCarthy to affirm what many have said about them writing S3 when S4 wasn't a definite possibility.

EquestriaGuy, I know you're there, and I hope you'll be able to ask a few questions for me - I really hope we get some clearer answers on what exactly went on in the finale.

- What was the deal with the six-starred version of Twilight's mark that we saw three separate times in the finale? Is it going to be a Thing going forward? What did they mean by it, if anything?

- They're going to be deliberately cagey about next season, of course, but what can we expect to learn about Twilight? What's her place in the world going to be?

- Can Daniel Ingram get any better? (I can't imagine how, honestly.)

I'll ask McCarthy at the cocktail party. I'm not much of a "stand up and ask questions" kinda guy. Maybe someone else wants to. I could also tweet Thiessen about it, or Jim Miller.

For some reason, people don't seem to mind if it's Vegas. One of the big anime conventions announced they're opening up a January convention at Planet Hollywood.

Man, now I'm feeling jealous, and for the first time in any of these con threads. If this happens again next year, I might well go since it's not that much of a trek from the bay area. Truth be told, I wrote Vegas off several years ago after witnessing a complete drug-driven disaster that marked the temporary end of the other fandom I'm genuinely part of - Phish - for a good half decade. But your thoughts about how the location might select for a certain fanbase element have me curious. Certainly for Phish, which is an older, well-to-do fanbase at this point, it selected for the people who had the means and inclination to party (way too) hard.

Well, someone is excited about Unicon. :-/
Las Vegas -- A shooting and a fiery crash left three people dead in the neon heart of the Las Vegas Strip on Thursday, and police scrambled to find out who triggered the carnage.
Nissl, EQLA is apparently going to be pretty big this year, should look into attending that.

When I lived in LA, I'd go to Vegas probably 6 times a year. The best buffets, in order, are at The Wynn, The Cosmopolitan, and Planet Hollywood. If you want to get the best burgers and milkshakes, go to the Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay. If you hit it big at the tables and don't mind dropping $200 on the best meal of your life, go to Aureole, also located in Mandalay Bay.

And the price is quite reasonable for gourmet burgers. It'd be a great place for people at a con to eat at. My favorite thing to get there is the Hubert Keller Burger with a Chocolate Cowboy shake.

Livestream for the opening ceremonies is finally (kinda) starting!

Edit: Though they're filling the delay for the opening with spontaneous brony singing, and your mileage may vary on that.
