Hey the forum thinger is busted! Issues known and found.

With new forums comes a whole new set of things that are missing or wrong!

Here's a list so far:
The old styles are still missing. (And various formatting-related things like the custom title positioning.)
BBcode doesn't work in custom titles.
The spoiler and hidden tags don't work. Hidden works, but spoiler needs the styles set up.
Smilies don't have the categories.

If you've spotted anything else, toss in a post.

A number of emotes including :y: have a hovertext of "(data missing)".

Yes. Emoji in posts and thread titles had to be enabled by a few custom hacks to the old forum. Emoji support was supposed to be a standard feature in phpBB 3.2, but apparently that's only for posts and not titles or something! :shepspike:

I think it's because the text field is some type that only supports basic Latin text? Maybe?

Just tried to look up the old smilies thread, but apparently DPC wasn't public. :pinkieshrug:

I'm sure if you put up a thread listing all the ones that need the text back, people will remember.

I.E.

:snicker: "That's going to end poorly for you!"

:byopinkie: "I AM PINKIE PLEASE INSERT CUPCAKE"

:partyhat: "Parties. Parties Everywhere"

:fluttershock: "Well that is a thing that happened"

:thehorror: "It's an abomination!"

EDIT: Also, is there an archive of the gangtags from the paintubes of old? I need to let people know how many horrible things I have witnessed!

I will post some status updates here as I work on restoring things before I take off and leave it in Void and Kef's hands to find a long-term replacement for these things.

I'm currently in the process of restoring various mods to the forums, some of which are easier and some of which are harder to implement. For example, you may have noticed that the image resizer is already working.

I am currently working on porting the mod that gave banned users this avatar:

Image

Other mods I know need to be ported from the old code (if they don't already exist for the new version of phpBB):
  • Displaying custom titles below the avatar (this is actually a theme fix)
  • BBCode in custom titles
  • Smilie Categories
  • Moderator pips
  • Bronibooru Bosses getting listed next to Moderators on the front page (technically a theme fix)
  • Custom icons for website links (mostly a theme fix that depends on Play, etc., but there are some code fixes needed as well)
  • Displaying gender pips (mostly a theme fix)
  • APNG smilies (for Microsoft IE/Edge users)
  • As mentioned above Non-BMP Unicode support
  • Obviously The VERB themes. Ponisilver, Ponigala, Ponisummer, YPPOS, and Jefferson Starship may not return as easily, but on the other hand, the new extension mechanism may make it easier to maintain them with patches. This is going to be the last thing I work on. (aside from making sure that the next maintainer is set up to push future changes)

http://mlponies.net/forums redirects to http://www.roundstable.com/forums/index.html, which is now busted. Looks like http://mlponies.net redirects to the right place now, since the front page doesn't exist anymore.

That's a community thing and not a forum thing, so nothing the admins can do for you I'm afraid. However, for a sorta-complete collection (I'm definitely missing a bunch, especially older ones), I can upload my signature rotator stuff if you like.

If we bring back Ponisilver/summer/gala, could we merge them in with the current version of Prosilver instead of just copying them? That is to say, we'd want to basically paste their colors and images (with some resizing as necessary) into the current Prosilver and move Prosilver's avatars and user info back to the left, but otherwise I think it has enough new features to where we'd want to keep them instead of just sticking with an ancient version of Prosilver.

Shine and variants will require work to bring them to feature parity too, I presume.

Works perfectly, though the preview was really broken, showing the url text on top of the pics, but luckily that didn't translate into the actual signature. Thanks!

YT embed was using the plain http instead of https urls. I changed that so hopefully that didn't break anything. And I dunno if that will fix existing embeds or only work on new ones.

e: Nope still doesn't look like it works. Hmm.
ee: I got it working in the secret development forum, just waiting to see if cosmo (who made the current one) has some objection before bringing it here.

The signature image limits are wrong. They're the old one (468x125) instead of the new one (IIRC 500x150 or something, I know the height was 150px but dunno about width). I imagine whoever set it probably just copied over the number in the rules, which was never updated, so yeah probably should update that too.

Also I figured this is important enough for a new post: I can see and read the convention meetup forum despite not being in the relevant usergroup. Considering I'm not supposed to have access this is probably something you should fix ASAP.

But I didn't ask for access meaning that either somebody added me by accident, or then phpBB did. Figure it'd probably be best to check it isn't the latter and the software isn't just adding everyone who gets their first post approved.

Also: please disable the "post review" thing in PPPP, it's really annoying having to double-click to make a post go through if somebody squeezes a shitpost in before you do.

Here's a suggestion: enforce https because right now it's really annoying to accidentally end up in the http site and be logged out and also not have your credentials remembered. I don't think there's any reason not to, unless it breaks something specific. Sure it'll have the stupid mixed content warning at least in Firefox, but it's not like it matters

Apparently the new signature sizes were 600x150 btw, I found my old signature back from when the new rules were implemented.

EDIT: RIP Syndrome, you are in the Party Crashers group.
The new version of phpBB caps quote pyramids to depth 3 by default (adjustable) with no user-side workarounds, so the old quote remover mod is unneeded. Consider the extra quote level a perk for upgrading.

Kefka turned it back down to 1 earlier today. Honestly, I kind of preferred having nested quotes like that.

The list command adds a bullet point even if you don't use the [*] code.

Example:
  • 1. Item 1
    2. Item 2
    3. Item 3

The Active Topics link (under quick links at the top) is pulling in PPPP. I've forgotten what else was excluded from it, but I know PPPP was.

that's because you're doing it wrong. duh

if you are as enlightened as the great sages who invented bbcode you would know that it's as easy as
  1. one
  2. two
  3. three
it's not like there are smarter languages out there. i mean you'd have to do some sort of "marking down" from a numbered list, and that's just way too complicated! no computer could ever do that!

no, you'll just have to remember to do it the bbcode way and like it :applejargh:

In a case like that I think you're meant to use [list=1], use the [*] for each line in the list, and let phpBB do the numbering for you.

I'm pretty sure yospos hates markdown though
Markdown has its problems, mostly related to:
  • angering graybeards like myself who have strong preferences about how to represent things (e.g. usenet "styling" with asterisks, slashes, and so on)
  • having a lot of under-defined definitions in its original form because Gruber doesn't actually care about anything other than his own use case
  • no tables or strikethrough by default
But for all these problems, most have solutions (e.g. using a strongly-defined Markdown variant like CommonMark, using a flavor of markdown that supports what you want, like GitHub-flavored Markdown), and at least MD tries to be user-friendly. Finally, a lot of people are familiar with it these days since it's the basis for Github, Slack and Discord text styling.
