my latest YouTube rabbit hole is watching people repair faulty electronics and machinery

The bigger rabbit hole is the vast amount of maker on YouTube. Most repair and restoration videos types can get boring fast.
But there are some gems like https://www.youtube.com/c/CuriousMarc that are interesting all the way through about vintage electronics as vintage it can get, from ancient mainframes to space age miracles and sometimes something more "modern" like the IBM PS/2.

I started watching Adrian's Digital Basement after YouTube randomly recommended me the one where he fixes a TV he found in the trash. Among other things, I've learned that I need to either buy or build a brand-new power supply before I try powering on either of the Commodore 64s I dug out of the attic last year. I also learned that if I hadn't thrown out that Mac Classic II all those years ago, it would probably be ruined from the battery leaking all over the motherboard anyway, so that was a load off my mind.

i have seen 10 star trek movies and am about to deliver my judgement:

1. the "odd number - bad, even number - good" claim is one of the dumbest things i've ever heard in my life.

2. the "worst" star trek movies are "average" at worst and are watchable

there was this shortlived period in video game history where every game had to have a bow in it

crysis 3 had a bow in it

it was even prominently advertized

but because it lasted a very short time, it almost feels like it didn't happen, but you can just go and see crysis 3's boxart for proof

i'll never understand how it happened, tho

Pah... Portable trebuchets get en-vogue again. Everybody loves grenade launchers like the one in the Jedi Knight games (concussion launcher) or Unreal Tournament.

i think i'm not into video games as i used to be

between not caring for a lot of new releases, going on for days (and weeks sometimes) not touching anything and finding watching tv shows or movies a more enjoyable and fulfiling way to entertain myself

the video game ship has probably sailed

eh, i'll get over it

i started thinking about this back during epic store's christmas/new year give away and how the only game i got from there that i played was prey, which i abandoned and deleted an hour in

that said

there are games i like, but they are too few and far between to argue that i like video games as a hobby as much as i did

not to mention most of them are several years old at this point

and some are really very specific in what they do

the cost of watching stuff is also lower

whereas video games require expensive hardware (be it a good pc or a console) plus the cost of the video game itself (varies, of course, because of sales) plus having to determine if a game is worth playing (which can be pretty hard)

also people are really weird about video games in a way that i'm getting tired of dealing with

i have a bunch of emulators installed that i haven't touched in months

in contrast to all this, i've gone through multiple shows over the course of last year and have finished season 2 of better call saul last week

so uh yeah, that's my random thought for the day
